An Electrical Rats-Nest

Sorry, not a real rat's nest, the real ones I removed from the ductwork with my trusty shop vac.

Now, I expect craziness from the previous retrofits, but this one takes the cake. I pulled off the panel above the left side of the driver's area, and this is what I found. It was packed full of wire, randomly jumbled, spliced in every way possible, and impossible to determine what went where. Most of it appears to have been from an intercom system that had been removed, along with wiring for a backup camera (removed) and a CB radio (removed).

After attempting to figure out what went where, I finally decided if any of it was important, it was doomed to failure anyway. So I went at it with a set of wire-cutters. Everything that had worked was still working when I drove the bus back to the lot, so apparently my theory was good.

The lower picture shows both the wiring and the overhead panel have been removed. You can also see in that picture where an access hole was "improved" by enlarging it with the tried and true method of hammer and screwdriver. Repairing these panels is going to be a real joy.
